Guardian Homes::

At Greenwood Park Labradoodles, all of our dogs live indoors as part of the family, fully participating in our lives.  In an effort to expand our breeding program, we offer a Guardian Home Program.  This allows us to continue with a top notch Australian Labradoodle breeding and training program and ensures all of our breeding dogs live a pampered life with their very own forever family!

What is a Guardian Home?

Our Guardian Home Program allows local families to have a “pick of the litter” labradoodle puppy or top notch adolescent/adult breeding dog for just a fraction of the price.  The Guardian puppy or dog is part of the Guardian Home’s family forever, while breeding rights are retained by Greenwood Park Labradoodles, for a set amount of time.  These dogs usually have a shorter breeding career.  Once breeding is completed he/she will be spayed or neutered at our expense and will remain a forever pet of the Guardian Home family.

AreThere Costs Involved?

We do not give our Guardian dogs or puppies away.  There is a deposit required but is a fraction of the cost of a pet puppy.  Our Guardian families will also be compensated for participating  in our Guardian Program, how so to be determined on an individual basis based on the wishes of the Guardian family.  Guardian families are responsible for general routine veterinary care and wellness of the Guardian dog placed with them.  This includes feeding a high quality dog food, grooming, monthly heartworm preventative, flea and tick preventative, training, regular exercise and socialization, and most importantly a lot of love!  Any breeding related costs are to be the sole responsibility of Greenwood Park Labradoodles.

What are the Benefits?

Guardian families get the very best that Greenwood Park Labradoodles has to offer in the Australian Labradoodle!  Our breeding stock is carefully chosen based on the best qualities outlined in the breed standard with temperament being of upmost importance.  All Guardian dogs will also be completely health tested by 12 months of age, at our expense, prior to entering our breeding program.  Guardian families get to enjoy the excitement of being part of our breeding program, and seeing the offspring of their own dog be placed with families across the globe!

Requirements ::

To be considered as a Guardian Home for one of our breeding dogs, we require you reside within 90 miles of Bowling Green, Kentucky with no anticipated job transfers in the foreseeable future.  To be considered you must also:

  • Have a fully fenced yard.

  • Own your own home

  • Be willing to feed a high quality dog food

  • Be willing to follow Greenwood Park Labradoodle’s recommendations for basic health/vet care such as vaccine schedules, use of medications, and emergency care

  • Primary caregiver must have a schedule that will not cause the dog to be left alone for long periods of time on a regular basis

  • Must be an indoor dog and never be left outside unattended

  • No other intact dog should ever be on the premises to avoid unwanted mating

  • Be willing to complete at least one level of obedience class

  • Be willing to have open communication with Greenwood Park Labradoodles about any matter concerning the dog

  • Be willing for us to have visits both in your home with the dog as well as bringing the dog here from time to time.  This allows us to maintain a relationship with the dog making any transitions much easier.

How it Works ::

Most of the dogs we place in Guardian homes will be females.  There will be the occasional male puppy in our Guardian program.

Females

If you are applying for a young adult female, she will come to you already health tested and may have only a couple more breedings for us prior to being spayed and released solely to you as your forever pet.  If you are applying for a female puppy, she will come to you at eight weeks of age.  During the first year, Greenwood Park Labradoodles will have her health testing completed (at our expense).  Once we receive all her results from health testing, we are then able to access whether or  not she will enter into our breeding program.  If for any reason we decide not to breed the Guardian dog placed with you, we will then spay the Guardian dog at no cost to you, and she will remain a forever family pet with her Guardian family.  When a Guardian dog is in season, the Guardian family is required to contact us immediately.  An intact female usually has a heat cycle once to twice a year lasting between 14 and 21 days.  During this time we will need to access her for breeding related appointments if she is to be bred during that particular heat cycle.  Once she has been bred she will remain with her Guardian family until about one week prior to her due date.  At that time, the Guardian dog will come here to spend the remainder of her pregnancy and the approximately 7 weeks it will take to fully wean her puppies.  Guardian families are welcomed and encouraged to visit while their dog is with us.

Males

The same procedures apply to our male Guardian dogs as our females in regards to health testing and the assessments that follow before entering our breeding program.  We will likewise neuter any male puppy that we chose not to use in our program and he will remain your forever family pet.  Adult males will come fully health tested.  Males in our Guardian Program have a much easier go of things.  We will at times need to access the Guardian dog for reproductive related veterinary appointments.  If you have a reproductive veterinarian in your area, you may opt to take him yourself to these appointments in order to keep him with you.  In some cases we will want to use the Guardian dog for a natural breeding, so he would need to stay with us for a short period, usually 7-10 days.  He will complete his breeding career sometime between 4-6 years of age unless Greenwood Park Labradoodles decides to retire him from our program early.
